Costco ribs, pies, rissoles from frozen, leftover burritos from the night before. The Road Chef 6.6L 12V Oven handles all of it without fuss.

Whether you're heading out for a dog friendly camping weekend near Sofala, chasing a campsite near Sydney via the Bridle Track, or on a longer run through NSW, the beauty of this oven is that your meal cooks while you drive. You park up, you eat. No waiting, no cooking in the dark. If you're going for a bush walk, pop something in before you leave and it'll be hot and ready when you get back to the car.

How I Actually Use My 12v Pie Oven

Forget preheating. I used to run it up to 180°C, put food in, and end up with inconsistent results. These days I set it to 120–150°C, put the food in cold, and let it run for 90–120 minutes. More forgiving, better heat distribution throughout the meal, and if you overshoot the timer it just stays warm after shutoff. Dead easy. Shout out to Dex Fulton for pointing out this obvious hack to me on our Vic High Country Trip with Jeremy.

The tip that took me too long to work out: line the wire racks with foil. Meat juices and crumbs hitting the bottom of a hot oven bake themselves on hard. Save yourself the mess, especially at a dog friendly campsite in NSW with no running water.

Power & Wiring needs a solid connection

Mine runs off my Redarc Rogue via Anderson plug, but any solid 12V setup works. The unit draws up to 8.5A, skip the cigarette lighter or merit plug if you can as there's not enough contact for this much current. A proper fused Anderson connection direct to your aux battery is the right move. Comes with an Anderson-to-cigarette adapter if you need it temporarily but I DO NOT recommend the adaptor.

Why Road Chef Over the Competition

The door latch. I do proper off-road runs and the last thing I want is the oven door bouncing open in the back of the car. The Travel Buddy doesn't have one. A mate of mine rolled his car on the highway, the Road Chef came out fine. Five plus years of hard use, multiple builds of the same Amarok, covered a huge amount of this country. Still going.

I keep the oven on the same side of the canopy as the fridge, easy to pull something straight out of the cold and into the oven. Gloves and paper towel on that side too.

Specs

Capacity: 6.6L

Temperature range: 80–180°C

Power draw: ~8.3A / 100W | Fused at 15A

Connection: 50A Anderson plug (cigarette/merit adapter included)

External: 32.2W √ó 30D √ó 19.5H cm | Internal: 26.8W √ó 25.2D √ó 10H cm

Weight: 5kg | Cable length: 110cm

Includes: 2 adjustable wire racks, tie-down brackets

Warranty: 12 Months

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0726/7847/4036/files/0378738_12v-camping-oven_033fe7f5-a175-4b25-968d-ac5b7b7012a7.jpg?v=1776770972
